The point of a sniper is to kill in one hit. D&D especially 5th edition is not really set up for one hit kills especially on high level targets. You could maybe use this to assassinate the local Lord or a commoner, but you aren't going to snipe Strahd.

not sure if i'm missing some crucial detail but if you go by rules as written it says: A beam of crackling energy streaks toward a creature within range. meaning it technically doesn't require sight of the target where as say magic missile, for example, says: You create three glowing darts of magical force. Each dart hits a creature of your choice *that you can see* within range. it has actual specification that sight is needed unlike eldritch blast. obviously rules as intended, this wouldn't work, and a dm would probably slap you for bringing it up. not saying that it should be this way but it was a funny detail i noticed at my last dnd session that i wanted to share.

Its definitely a specialized role to be a sniper like that. But then again snipers are a specialized role in real life yet they are still quiet useful. Just suppressing enemies and forcing them to hide or stay in cover is already extremely useful for a party to work off of, and there are alot of strategies you can do around something like this. You could even just keep a group of people suppressed forcing them to stay in cover, while your party takes a long rest and you just exhaust the enemy to death

I'd question the necessity of Orbit. Sure, that would be necessary for dino bones in space *near earth* but, provided it doesnt get pulled into some other gravity well, and just goes streaking onwards forever, it would STILL BE IN SPACE. Yes, the other points mostly obviate this, but the question of a stable orbit is almost entirely irrelevant.

I've always felt that Warlock needs to get eldritch bolt progression entirely separately from the rest of their stuff, and perhaps have it apply to a variety of 'eldritch weapons' instead of just 'the heavy crossbow cantrip'. Put in a lot more flavorful mechanics and such than free spells and such. Warlock just badly needs an overhaul.

The way I see it, Mending doesn't fix or repair necessarily. It just mends. It returns it to a prior state using only a simple mend. It can't sew nerves and arteries and muscle together. It can't re-weld all the components in a warforged. It can't "mend" a broken chain to a new object. I think the closest it can do is reattach the vascular tissues of a broken woody stem. So I think you could mend cracks and ruptures in bone, re-seal sliced or torn skin (so long as none of it was missing, maybe?), and repair cracks in warforged frames.. but you wouldn't regain hit points. You'd just be able to use it again. Your leg would probably be okay and stable but you'd need proper magic to have it heal/be able to heal. At least that's how I think it ought to work..

I guess that's an AD&D 1st ed quirk as 2nd ed it was buffed as the PHB states specifically that Erase can remove Explosive Runes, Glyphs of Warding, Sepia Snake Sigil and Wizard Mark. But it came with drawbacks as the chances were changed to 100% on touch for mundane text, 90% up to 30m and 30% + 5%/level up to 90% (lvl 13+ wizards be hurting) on touch only for magic text. So removing a protective spell was made possible but more risky at low level.

Eldritch Spear alone is MORE than enough. 300 feet easily outranges everything.

Considering my play sessions are limited to an hour I've decided to make all jumping and climbing actions part of the movement action so if you want to jump or climb you just can and then still do something cool like stab a guy or do a mid-air bow strike. That being said, it still wouldn't have let him reach the other side of that chasm using the jump spell even with my totally munchkined up broken version of jumping.

So are we going on recorder rules or voice rules? Like if I was going to use magic mouth but instead of any words I just used the sound of a dog whistle or the roar of monster would that work?

In my opinion, i think that this combo works best with a VILLAIN! Forcing the players to work out how to deal with someone who can hit them from so far away could be a very interesting issue to see them solve honestly! Of course it might be a bit annoying but im sure there could be a proper way to doing it!

I did this using printable magnets and gluing their inventory boards to metal sheets. It was brilliant and everyone loved it. I even had some items that had slots for smaller items on them, like a belt, for example, that had two belt pouches. A staff that had a compartment for a single potion. A gambeson with pockets where you could store a flask of liquor or a keyring. The only problem was actually having to find the appropriate handout whenever a new item was awarded. I used tiny ziploc bags and a fishing tacklebox to keep things sorted, and it was still a process. Usually, it would be something like "Player gets new suit of armor", and then I would throw the bag labeled "armor" at them and say "Pick one" and make the player do it.

The way it ended up being useful for us is we told it to close this door whenever opened the door being the only way into this underground cave, we were in it didn’t really become useful until the end of the fight when some of them started trying to escape where they were by the door, getting slammed in their face, allowing the artificer to use catapult on his Elder canon to get it within range

So, a few fun concepts. First, you really only need 2 levels of Warlock for this build to go to the truly stupid with Eldritch Spear, since it requires you to *be* a Warlock. Spell Sniper allows you to pick a cantrip from another spellcasting class anyway, but even with the Eldritch Adept feat, you still need to *be* a Warlock to take the Eldritch Spear invocation. So, we do need 2 levels of Warlock. Past that though... Hell, do we actually need any other class but Sorcerer? Not really. But assuming a Level 20 concept build, we take 17 levels in it, and can spend the whole way up mostly as a Sorcerer who happens to have ridiculous ranged magic as an option. I pick the Draconic origin, since that natural fly speed at high level will be fantastic for aerial sniping. What's that 1 extra level for? So we can take a level of Wizard, and use the spellbook feature to copy in whatever other spells we want, since spellbook copying only checks for spells you have slots for, not your Wizard level (and 17 levels of Sorcerer + Warlock means even if you don't play as a full Coffeelock, you have functionally as many spells as you like.) But why bother seeking out other spells? What else could be used with Distant Spell alone meaningfully? Another meme spell. *Fabricate.* It's a hefty demolition spell, after all. And only at 4th level, too, meaning we can Sorcery Point other options to *bulldoze a whole castle* if need be, from 240 feet away... In the air. Oh look, it's your entire tower rearranged into a straight line of each material like a rainbow pattern while you're stuck watching from the ground! Listen, at super-high level D&D, I argue the meme is the only thing that matters. With this build, you get everything meaningful from mono-classing including your 9th level spells, plus a ridiculous 1200 ft spell attack to snipe down that dragon that *should* be able to fly away without issue. You get free flight allowing you to position yourself as high up in the sky as you *want* for this nonsense, and should your DM allow it, coffeelock shenanigans to boot. It's stupidly fun. And with the dip to Wizard, spell hunting/(bargaining with the DM) means a theoretically limitless spellbook with which to cast all of these spells from the sky at double range over and over and over. It's beautiful.

Or give it a torch or some other kind of light to carry Useful if you play human/Dragonborn/Halfling which lack darkvision

"I don't think it can pour a potion in your mouth" then cites it can do all sorts of use item actions that are more complicated, and the often imagined use as a servant who pours drinks for rich people. You know, maybe a potion? You just need to be conscious to swallow, and be able to give the order.

I personally loving using this for boss encounters. In most cases you don't wanna make a player character build for an NPC fight, as they're going to be outclassed by the party's superior numbers. However, having a Spellsniper Eldrtich Blast Warlock basically set up in a town as the look out/sniper is a great encounter because, until the players can get to him, he's untouchable while still being able to shoot them. You're basically in his liar, but once you get in close you find out how reliant he is on his gimmick and BAM! Catharsis for the players, and a very memorable boss fight.

Just like you show, some builds work better for an enemy than a PC. Imagine pinning your party down and trying to get them to defeat an enemy 1200 ft away? Every time they're visible in range, they're taking a couple prepared blasts. Just plant your BBEG's warlock minion behind cover on a hill, and watch your party learn the importance of full cover!

It takes 36 seconds to get from the hill to the tower if you include sacrificing one of the action dashes for that second round of eldritch shots. He started moving at 2:04 and got there at 2:40 or 36 seconds. That is some great continuity work. VERY well done.

Why would a grapple skill ever be tied that heavily to armor class? Like, I can imagine getting bonuses if your wearing light armors or no armor, but you should never have a 100% grapple check on a squishy class.

This is the only time I'll ever admit this, but I agree with Larry here on this ruling.

I thought about it, so with the bridge, if you take a plank out the bridge falls apart. So let’s say armor, if something like a lethal strap was to snap or rot or be replaced the entire thing just *poof* falls down. The more complex the item the easier it is to collapse. This way could still break things like tools and weapons as they seem less likely to break UNLESS you count damage to a blade chipping, tools bending or hammers getting dented as a fair way to make the item fall apart. This keeps the spell useful, especially if you want to make a bridge to cross but don’t want people to follow you afterwards but won’t break the economy as people probably would know not to just buy random tools or weapons from someone that isn’t their town blacksmith.

At one point, I found out out that running in and risking yourself to try to get yourself killed in a blaze of glory will in a lot of games just end up with you winning. I've started playing characters who are always willing to die to fight for what they believe in and it adds quite a bit to the story, is fun to play, and usually ends up going pretty well for my characters. When it doesn't, well it fun to change things up from time to time.

I wonder if Unseen Servant is a force that does things that the caster assumes can be done. Like unlatching doors and carrying objects, but complicated assumptions like combat or lockpicking aren't mindless activities, therefore the caster can't just assume they can be done. Therefore Unseen Servant can't preform aimed tasks (feeding, healing, surgery, combat)
